Careers
Some of the most important decisions your son or daughter will make during their time at school are about what career directions and further study and training they will pursue when they finish their secondary education.
One activity to support your child with this planning is providing a curriculum-based workplace learning program.
Workplace learning programs are learning activities in real workplaces that help young people to gain practical experience of work as well as learn industry and workplace skills as part of their studies. These programs are available in Year 10 and the Work Experience.
As a parent or carer, you would be aware young people need to be equipped to become informed, active and confident self-managers of their future careers.
You can support your young person at this important time in their life, by being a 'partner' with their school in helping them achieve these capabilities through participating in a workplace learning program tailored to the student's needs.
The attached material provides information on how you can get behind this initiative and how to support the young people in your care to get the most out of this important program.

It is a requirement by the Department of Education that all students doing work experience are to complete My Work Experience modules online. It is a fun way to prepare them for their placement and can be completed in their own time. For students to get started go to https://www.myworkexperience.com.au/auth/login. Create a new account to complete the simple online registration using a valid email address. Your password must be a minimum of five characters, contain a capital letter and number.
Once Students complete the My Work Experience modules, they will obtain their own Ready for Work Experience Certificate. The Certificate lets their host employer know that they are prepared for their placement and have identified a set of skills and competencies to focus on during their placement.
To apply for work experience, students need to send to the employer the following documents for the employer to electronically complete and sign their section:
- Their letter of application.
- Cover letter resume.
- The Workplace Learning Guide for Employers.
- The relevant school letter to the employer.
- The Ready for Work Experience Certificate after completing the My Work Experience Modules online.
- The Student Placement Record with Section 1 and Section 4 electronically completed and signed and their name written at the top of each page.
