Connecting with the school
Transitioning from primary school to high school can be a daunting experience. At Girraween High School, our transition and wellbeing programs are fundamental in supporting Year 7 through their first year of high school.
Year 7 start their school year with a transition program before settling into their new classes. We offer a camp attended by our peer support leaders to help students create relationships and build self-confidence. The peer support program continues throughout terms 1 and 2, running alongside our wellbeing lessons program, taught by their year adviser, that students participate in once a fortnight.
We also encourage and foster open communication between school and home with harmony night and parent information evenings central to the establishment of relationships between parents, staff and students.
Year 7 also participate in a research skills program run through the library and perform community service, creating posters to support our higher school certificate students.
